Today Venus is conjunct the Moon in the sign of Aries. Aries is the warrior archetype, standing fully in their Sovereignty.
At this station we are asked to look at our relationship to our own Sovereignty. Are we strong and warrior like in our approach, do we take personal responsibility or are we like the wounded child who did not receive enough nourishment or love from the mother, grasping for external power through the oppression of those who are deemed weaker, blaming and shaming everyone around us without any personal accountability.
We need only look at our external societal structures to see where the wounded masculine is perpetrator. Even the timely death of the pope, the figurehead of the Catholic Church, an entity of oppression and control through the ages. It is with no great effort through theological research, that one can discover the widespread harm perpetuated on women and children, with thousands burned at the hands of the colonisers religion.
This abuse of the feminine, mirrored in the church but widespread in all patriarchal culture is what severs our umbilicus from the Earth, from the Great Mother, Sophia. It is why the earth is burning, why women’s bodies are shamed and abused, it is why there is so much sickness and denigration. As a society we have become extractive, like the wounded páiste that did not receive enough in infancy.
But like any Great Mother she is calling us back to her, to her Bosom, don chroí. Like Bríghde who keened for her son Ruadán after he was beheaded in battle, Ériu caoins for her warrior páistí who have been beheaded, she laments for their lost Sovereignty and wails in their forgetfulness.
What we are witnessing now is a burning away of the powers of control that have tried to remove our Sovereignty, that also includes the internal controls which we have adopted from colonised beliefs and ideologies. Where do we still outsource our connection to the Divine through any religious institution? Where do we fail to claim our own direct connection with the Creator of all of life. When will we finally return ár mhathair, to open to her fullness completely, to be held and nourished by Her. To accept all of our parts and realise that she accepts them too. It is only then that we can fully surrender to the Father. We cannot claim our Sovereignty if we are not rooted sa talamh.
What can you do today, to step more fully into your Sovereignty? Perhaps you are dealing with feelings of anger or rage, deep in the womb and heart, expression of these emotions is necessary if you have been living with decades of repression. Underneath this there can be a upwelling of grief, like Bríghde there are times when ag caoineadh is necessary. The Caoin is the complete undoing, the facing and dissolving of all that is untrue. If we can face the depth of this undoing we are always granted new life. But if you are like me and you have children, we can alchemise this grief into something creative, allowing the fire and fury to fuel the passion for what is alive.
This path is a spiral, sometimes one practice is required over another, neither better or worse but always in service to the whole. Grief and rage cannot and should not be by-passed by the chronically repressed, similarly those who comfortably dwell in the darkness would do well to light the fire of inspiration in service to holy alchemy. For each person this will be highly individual. This is the great weaving, the opening, the allowing and the receiving. It is time to step forward with courage.
Le grá,
